Odd Socks

Like odd socks in the drawer these photos are friendless and alone in this world. They have gathered here in an act of solidarity, thrown together by need for company. Please be kind to odd socks everywhere.

"Hi, I started out in life wanting to be part
of a set of pictures.
.I've waited and waited but
no one's come along."

"I'm a little shy about speaking but
I think I can tell my story
with just my hands.
I'm just an old lady who loves wood."

"I'm new around here.
Wanted to be part of a brave new world but
I find myself in Cambridge, England
(of all places!)
And on a blog that's more interested in
fusty old churches."

"Post? Huh, you gotta be kidding!
There's been no post delivered here for years.
Every once in a while some joker
comes along and takes my photo,
Otherwise nothing."

"Summer grasses and grey skies looming.
I presume you've heard
my story before."

"J H Cooper & Son at your service,
in business for 100 years,
ever since Jabez Henry Cooper traded from
his horse-drawn cart.
Old-fashioned honesty -
a rare commodity in the
furniture trade."

"Hello, I'm Clare.
I drifted through University,
afloat on the river.
A reliable, fun-loving girl
with a good sense of humour!"

"Just an old church door.
Who would stop
to look at me?"

"Cottages, castles, cathedrals?
I could show you how
people really live, baby"

"Hi, I started out in life wanting to be part
of a set of pictures.
I've waited and waited
but no one's come along.
So far"

Take care.

  3. A nice assortment of images. You should do this more often. My favorite is the first one of the tools. Very nice all.

  4. church door--my favorite--also the clouds reflected in the glass windows--photos help us to see the beauty that is around us if we only take time to see

  6. A post with a difference - the comments (as well as the photos) were great! The subjects of our photos does not often a chance to say what they feel about being photographed.

PS Now we are getting your weather ...

  9. Heehee, I do love hearing the "photos' voice" here! As Carolyn said, thanks for that shot of fun, I lovely way to sooth travel-weariness! That post box is just beautiful.

  10. A great way of linking some attractive and disparate shots. I do like that modern glass and clouds effect, the reflection makes it look kind of misty and poetic.

  11. I have lots of orphan photos, too. A couple of times I have grouped them together as Miscellany I, II or III. I should do this again some time soon.

  12. I especially like the old wooden church door.
My photography is not on a par with yours, however I enjoy trying for close-ups of oddities, or a famililar view seen in a different light. So very much that my little camera is not capable of capturing.

  13. I have said it before John - your pictures and your commentary are exceptional - you should compile a book. I would definitely buy it and send it to all my friends for Christmas!

  17. A creative layout. Nice. This speaks more directly to me and with a louder voice. It speaks of something almost lost:

    Old-fashioned honesty -
    a rare commodity in the
    furniture trade."

And I would add, 'most any trade'.

  20. It's strange how some shots just don't fit with others, even those of the same area or theme. This is a great idea to give them the outing they deserve - I bet it takes off like a rocket!!

  21. A great collection that deserve to be viewed

  24. Hahaha! what a brilliant idea John, let's face it we all have a collection of photos that never see the light of day..methinks you should start a 'theme'!!

  25. Good selection from the old odd sock drawer. Once you've got them inside a pair of boots, they do exactly the same job as matched socks.
