Impressions Of Poppies

I returned to the field of wild flowers near Huckles Lane yesterday with the idea of taking some butterfly photos. The butterflies were very few in number, but the weeds had grown up to over head-height in places. I ended up taking a lot of "impressionistic" pictures of the poppies, photographing through and across the vegetation, deliberately throwing large parts of the scene out of focus.

Take care.

  2. Hi John - we've had lots of rain recently ... while the sun pushes our plants up and out - weeds too - but you can change our views of them ... lovely to see - the field of poppies must be beautiful to gaze upon and over - cheers Hilary

  4. I expect that it is necessary to wear a beret and smoke Gitanes to create this kind of effect, John.

  8. Oh my!! Favorite flower in the universe! How very lovely- did you take a snooze in the field? Thank you for these wonderful , portrait worthy shots of the loveliest growing , lipstick, flowers . They do not last very long -so glad you got these photos when they are looking their best! Inspired to paint a vouple of them though that would not be as good as the photos, still the bright poppy red turns my crank!

  9. In some of those photos it looks like you took a paint brush and splattered red paint on the picture. I may have to find some poppies to plant. They are lovely and long bloomers.

  11. I drove by a field of poppies several weeks ago, and meant (at the time) to go back and capture some photos. Alas, I will just enjoy yours, and I like the looks of these.

  24. Such dreamy, artistic photos one after another! . The bokeh effect made the field of flowers look in the mist. My favorites are #1 and #10.

  25. John, I would have had as good a time in this field of poppies are you obviously did. It is so hard to "just take one or a few" and the red color of these flowers just invites more photo taking.
