Searching For Gold

The plan was simple enough: bike to a nearby viewpoint and watch the sunset. Two things could go wrong - the weather and me! During the day the forecasts kept saying that cloud would increase from six o'clock onwards. Those of you who've read this blog for a while will also have gathered that I'm a morning person and tend to run out of energy as the day progresses. At seven o'clock it was still sunny and I was still awake, so I set off to see what would happen. Here are the resultant photos.....

There was just one other person there enjoying the entertainment, another cyclist. There was also a walker who passed by (you've already seen him). Everyone else must have been at home watching TV.

Take care.

  1. Glorious.
I am also a morning person, but our dawns are almost always more subdued than that gorgeous sunset.

  3. Your images are far more superior to anything that could be viewed on the TV.

  4. Hi John - the weather has been glorious and you picked an excellent day to venture out for your sunset bike ride searching for gold and coppery gold. Gorgeous - thank you ... Hilary

  5. And to think you missed staying home to watch TV for this! I think we can modify your role as a morning person to someone who really knows how to bookend the day. Just a wonderful series of images, John. It is telling that only a couple of others were there to enjoy the splendour. We really have lost touch with nature.

  7. Such a beautiful sunset there. I'm so glad you broke with tradition and headed out. My neighbor goes out in the evening and photographs the sunsets here and posts them on Facebook. It's the only way I get to see it. I'm a morning person too.

  8. Well if tv is as bad there as it is here you definitely had the better viewing John. Gorgeous sunset skies like this are hard to beat 💜

  11. I’m glad you went there, the change of colours is spectacular.
My favourite photo is the one with the man walking by.

  12. You were amply rewarded for your efforts. I went out yesterday evening but, here at least, sunset was a very muted affair. We are too low down in the valley and when the sun disappears behind the hills it is actually not really near to 'setting'.

  20. Oh, this was so enjoyable! I now run out of energy by evening...that is why I dont go to the strip pit area as much as I used to. But it is so entertaining when i do. We used to go, and stop at the edge of the road, get out and just watch the sky show.

  21. So glad you went out to capture these beautiful images, John. Like yourself, I prefer early mornings but lately have been watching the night skies as well even though I do not have any similar sunset skies to show.
