A couple of weeks ago I had a walk around the village to photograph the autumn scene. Some of the best colour is to be found around people's homes; in fact there are probably as many trees in gardens as there are in the fields and hedgerows in this arable country of South Cambridgeshire. I'm also aware that my photos tend to make things look idyllic, so I thought I would include some of the human clutter for a change. Then I decided I wouldn't publish these photos. Now I'm backtracking and think that maybe I will....

I liked the way those faded blue garage doors contrasted with the leaves.

So that's how it looked a couple of weeks ago. Today most of the leaves have fallen and it's grey with drizzle.

I think the 'ordinary' scenes are as interesting as the scenic and beautiful views, though like you I tend to focus mostly on the beauty as that's what I enjoy photographing. When we are familiar with a locale, we perhaps overlook the boring bits.

ReplyDeleteThese are so interesting. Just normal life in your area, but so attractive the way you photograph it. I really like the bus stop, picturing you sitting there, maybe reading? And your bike ride home...wow.
ReplyDeleteIf I'd been reading I'd have probably missed the bus! It was only a ten minute walk home so hardly worth using the bike, but after a twelve hour shift spent mostly on my feet....
DeleteIt still looks pretty idyllic. We have repair cafes popping up all over town. I think they are a brilliant idea.

ReplyDelete12 hour shifts remain as a good reminder of how lovely things are now for you, yes? I find that I am still glad I don't have to rush off to work in the morning, even 13 years later! And while these photos aren't as bucolic as usual, they are good to see and still have beauty. Thanks for your work. I don't often comment. But always look to see what you've done.....

DeleteThanks for showing the colors in your neighborhood, John. I enjoyed seeing the road you used to bike on when going to work (nice that you could do that)and the bus stop as well. We live in a city area and the scenes would be of the downtown area, which are not as bucolic as your scenes.

ReplyDeleteNot only have I enjoyed this autumn visit to your neighbourhood, but I have also learnt of Repair Cafes. To have so many shades of autumn on your doorstep, seems quite magical to me.
ReplyDeleteYes it is good to sometimes include evidence of human activity to our photos. It can make them come alive. The autumn colours are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe way autumn foliage adds colors to spice up your neighborhood is like my town though scenery is very different. I like the curving lane and I felt like that school-children’s voices echoing on the road. Our Ginkgos were at their best last week.
