A couple of weeks ago I had a walk around the village to photograph the autumn scene. Some of the best colour is to be found around people's homes; in fact there are probably as many trees in gardens as there are in the fields and hedgerows in this arable country of South Cambridgeshire. I'm also aware that my photos tend to make things look idyllic, so I thought I would include some of the human clutter for a change. Then I decided I wouldn't publish these photos. Now I'm backtracking and think that maybe I will....
Near to home. All the leaves have gone now.
Repair Cafe - I didn't know about that.
On the corner of Chiswick End.
Just across the road from the last photo.
There's a window in there!
ACE OF WASTE - I like that.
I liked the way those faded blue garage doors contrasted with the leaves.
Near the horse paddocks.
Old barn through a gap in the hedge.
Fenny Lane - (is in my ears and in my eyes)!
Where I used to wait for the bus.
School sign.
Gate.
Looking down the High Street.
The way I used to bike home after work.
In Malton Lane.
Sun just peeping through.
Yellow.
So that's how it looked a couple of weeks ago. Today most of the leaves have fallen and it's grey with drizzle.
Take care.
I think the 'ordinary' scenes are as interesting as the scenic and beautiful views, though like you I tend to focus mostly on the beauty as that's what I enjoy photographing. When we are familiar with a locale, we perhaps overlook the boring bits.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely area in which to live! That last shot is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see the area where you live, John. Nothing like my neighborhood, altho, we did have lots of beautiful colors this Fall also!
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice seeing what you see there, and that picture of yellow is truly beautiful. (NewRobin13)
ReplyDeleteYou still can't help but frame each shot in an artistic way. Each one is really beautiful, except maybe the trash bin.
ReplyDeleteThat last tree is incredibly yellow. Looks like a nice neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colours. It does look rather idyllic. Is the 'Yellow' a Gingko Bilbao?
ReplyDeleteI think it may well be Ginkgo Biloba.
DeleteThanks for sharing the fall colors in your area.
ReplyDeleteThese are so interesting. Just normal life in your area, but so attractive the way you photograph it. I really like the bus stop, picturing you sitting there, maybe reading? And your bike ride home...wow.
ReplyDeleteIf I'd been reading I'd have probably missed the bus! It was only a ten minute walk home so hardly worth using the bike, but after a twelve hour shift spent mostly on my feet....
DeleteIt still looks pretty idyllic. We have repair cafes popping up all over town. I think they are a brilliant idea.
ReplyDeleteI like these shots, John. The colour of the leaves makes everything look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteTanto el amarillo , como el rojo de los árboles, son colores de gran belleza. Los dueños de las casa, no tienen nada más que asomarse a las ventanas, para contemplar tanta hermosura.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
A nice walk around your area. The trees and leaves add their beauty to the scene. Wonderful shots, John.
ReplyDeleteThe trees are looking fabulous especially the leaves
ReplyDeleteThe autumn colours are amazing! It is a lovely area!
ReplyDeleteGood that you showed us these photos. I it gives us a good tour of the village.
ReplyDelete12 hour shifts remain as a good reminder of how lovely things are now for you, yes? I find that I am still glad I don't have to rush off to work in the morning, even 13 years later! And while these photos aren't as bucolic as usual, they are good to see and still have beauty. Thanks for your work. I don't often comment. But always look to see what you've done.....
ReplyDeleteLooks a lovely village and as usual John you have seen beauty in the mundane places as well as in that glorious YELLOW.
ReplyDeleteNo posts at the moment - I have to come to terms with my cancer diagnosis - but shall continue to find beauty in reading your posts.
I read a word, 'abcission' on another blog. I recognized it as soon as I read it, because when you say it softly, it sounds like the whisper of a leaf falling to the ground.
ReplyDeleteWeaver, you've been on my heart. Thinking of you. A card is on the way.
What a blessed life you must have led in that village John, it is so old world fashioned. Keep on writing Pat, I have written back on my blog. You have a brave spirit it will see you through this hard time.
ReplyDeleteIt looks a lovely area even with the clutter and what a super place to wait for a bus:)
ReplyDeleteYes, though it's also the site of the old village stocks so I guess there were some who didn't enjoy it so much!
DeleteHa - except those throwing the rotten vegetables perhaps?
DeleteLove the old bus stop and barn. I bet that brought back memories!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. I usually try to get the 'best' shot, but the clutter and building works are all around us. I like the garages, and agree they do contrast well. It looks like a lovely village.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the yellow tree in your last photo?
ReplyDeleteJacquieB commented earlier that she thought it might be a Ginkgo Biloba and I think that's right.
DeleteThanks for showing the colors in your neighborhood, John. I enjoyed seeing the road you used to bike on when going to work (nice that you could do that)and the bus stop as well. We live in a city area and the scenes would be of the downtown area, which are not as bucolic as your scenes.
ReplyDeleteI'll have Penny Lane playing in my head for the rest of the day! Nice shot of the window through the trees.
ReplyDeleteNot only have I enjoyed this autumn visit to your neighbourhood, but I have also learnt of Repair Cafes. To have so many shades of autumn on your doorstep, seems quite magical to me.
ReplyDeleteYes it is good to sometimes include evidence of human activity to our photos. It can make them come alive. The autumn colours are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe way autumn foliage adds colors to spice up your neighborhood is like my town though scenery is very different. I like the curving lane and I felt like that school-children’s voices echoing on the road. Our Ginkgos were at their best last week.
