As I tootled along on my bicycle this afternoon I spied something which I really wasn't expecting - a field of peonies!
Although there's quite a bit of commercial flower growing around here, most of it takes place inside polytunnels, away from the prying eye of the camera. I've often walked by fields of peonies though, but usually they are cut while in bud and shipped off so that they open just before the shops sell them. This peculiar year though, whether through lack of pickers or perhaps because florists are not considered an essential service, they seem to have been left to flower in the fields. So, if you can't go out and buy them, at least you can enjoy them through these photos.
Take care.
Beautiful Flowers!I wish to have a long walk there:)))
ReplyDeleteOh my. Oh my, oh my, oh my. I am totally unable to bring even on peonie to bloom so fields of them takes my breath away. Thank you.
ReplyDeletethese photos bring me such happiness! Thank you, John, for the splashes of color and sunshine!
ReplyDeleteMy few precious blooms are over now - I'd give almost anything to actually walk through that field - the fragrance must be so amazing!
ReplyDeleteJust checked the airlines - no flights across the pond yet so I'm not going to make it, sigh!
John, thanks for sharing with we flower lovers.
Mary -
That is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWow, a beautiful colourful sight!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I do love peonies. I planted a pink one last year, and had hoped for a bloom this year but looks like that's not happening. My white ones are getting battered by so much rain. I may just have to pick them and bring them inside to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourites! And I have never seen so many!! The most I ever saw in one spot was at a holiday cottage in Suffolk-there were 7 peonies, all dark blood-red. But this? wow!Thank you
ReplyDeleteHow glorious. I love peonies.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, John. What a stunning view of peonies as you bike ride by. Lovely in every way.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sight to come upon!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful find! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful - reminded me of my aunt who lived two doors down from us and had a peony.
ReplyDeleteOh my, you lucky man!! My early peony started blooming a few days ago, against the front fence. I look forward to the half dozen plants in the back garden which are pregnant with bloom. My MIL had a beautiful rectangle of peonies, but I have never seen such a glorious display as that in your post!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely sight!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful field of peonies to discover but what a sad financial loss it must also mean for the owner of these fields.
ReplyDeleteOh, how wonderful one of my favourite flowers. How amazing to see a whole field full of them:)
ReplyDeleteI guess we know now where the garden centres and nurseries get their stock from. It is a wonderful burst of colour.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, these peonies are gorgeous! Thank you much for sharing them. They certainly put a smile on my face today. You enjoy your day, hugs, Edna B.

ReplyDeleteHi John - those are stunning and what a glorious place to be able to visit. I love them and those colours are the ones I'd buy for my mother and we'd enjoy them together ... beautiful - thank you ... just enjoy them when you're out and about - Hilary
