Although there's quite a bit of commercial flower growing around here, most of it takes place inside polytunnels, away from the prying eye of the camera. I've often walked by fields of peonies though, but usually they are cut while in bud and shipped off so that they open just before the shops sell them. This peculiar year though, whether through lack of pickers or perhaps because florists are not considered an essential service, they seem to have been left to flower in the fields. So, if you can't go out and buy them, at least you can enjoy them through these photos.

ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I do love peonies. I planted a pink one last year, and had hoped for a bloom this year but looks like that's not happening. My white ones are getting battered by so much rain. I may just have to pick them and bring them inside to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourites! And I have never seen so many!! The most I ever saw in one spot was at a holiday cottage in Suffolk-there were 7 peonies, all dark blood-red. But this? wow!Thank you

ReplyDeleteOh my, you lucky man!! My early peony started blooming a few days ago, against the front fence. I look forward to the half dozen plants in the back garden which are pregnant with bloom. My MIL had a beautiful rectangle of peonies, but I have never seen such a glorious display as that in your post!!!
