Stand by for more photographs of autumn colour on this November post from Cambridge University's Botanic Garden as the season continues in this part of the world.
The Garden is also the venue for a photography exhibition which will continue until December 20th....
….the standard of photography is absolutely superb and can also be viewed here:
The sun is very low in the sky at this time of year making some shots impossible but also giving unusual effects at times....
A botanical joke:
Lots of children want to know if there are any deadly plants in the garden. Yes, indeed there are. In fact there's one so dangerous that if you lie down underneath it for just ten minutes you will certainly be dead. What is it?
A waterlily!
Take care.
Love the water lily joke! What an exquisite gsrden.
ReplyDeleteAll that foliage, all that water, and not a bird in sight!
ReplyDeleteBirds seen recently in the garden: Mallard, Moorhen, Wood Pigeon, Feral Pigeon, Sparrowhawk, Grey Heron, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Jay, Magpie, Long-Tailed Tit, Rook, Jackdaw, Dunnock, House Sparrow, Black-Headed Gull, Pheasant, Wren, Pied Wagtail, House Martin, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, Blackbird and, of course, Robin. During winter I'd expect to see Redwing, Fieldfare and maybe even Waxwing. There's also a pair of Peregrine Falcons that patrol the town and I'm sure they drop in for lunch from time to time. Not too bad for a city-centre site.
DeleteThe colors are so beautiful there. Ah, getting ready for winter's quiet.
ReplyDeleteThese are really excellent photos. Great colours and composition. Thanx.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I love the way you've used the light to focus on certain aspects, and putting these against dark shadows really highlights them. What a great collection and a small amount of color is much more easily enjoyed, I think.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous garden! I can see why photographers come here. I would too if I lived closer. :) P.S. Thank you for your kind comments on my recent post. I'm glad you enjoy my ramblings.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful garden with beautiful colours and scenery. Excellent photos, John!
ReplyDeleteHi John - well done on your joke! Loved seeing the Botanical Gardens ... they are gorgeous. Love these outside poster stands they're starting to use for various small exhibitions - I've only seen them outside the Guildhall in London ... but the ones shown here ... no wonder they garner wonderment. Thanks - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThat is magical and I love the joke.
ReplyDeleteWow - how magical!
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed your visits to the Botanical Gardens throughout this year. They are looking stunning at the moment. How wonderful to have the photographic exhibition outdoors:)
ReplyDeleteDelightful images John! Autumn seems to be hanging on this year, a wonderfully colourful season!
ReplyDeleteLove the joke and great to read of a good selection of birds you have seen at the gardens!
Glorious, poetic, romantic colours, j'adore these images John ✨ It must be getting a bit chillier now though right?
ReplyDelete11 or 12 degrees C this week.
DeleteYup.. that's chilly 😉
DeleteLovely pictures and what a beautiful, serene garden. Aren't we lucky to be having such great weather to enjoy it this year? The colour near me is still clinging on but I'm seeing the drabber garb creeping in. I'm going to enjoy looking at the International Garden Photographer of the Year link.
DeleteOW! Bad joke! But I will try it out on my grandies.
ReplyDeleteLove all those autumn colours. Sadly all our leaves are on the ground now, and as of this morning, covered with about 10cm of that cold white stuff.... I can hardly say the word, starts with S....
Hi John, beautiful photography!! I do love the low, slanting light. It seems almost like a spotlight that highlights some plants over others. Beautiful fall colors too.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's looking fabulous in autumn attire!
ReplyDeletehahahaha! Beware, the water lilly! The shadows and light in the first photo are especially wonderful, but all the photos completely captivate me.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful light for sure! I think some of your photos belong in the photography exhibit!
ReplyDeleteA lovely set of images John.
ReplyDeleteNot so sure about the joke telling though.
ha ha, that's my kind of joke. Beautiful photos John.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is beautiful
ReplyDeleteOh how I love the colours of fall! Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteHow can one possibly think November to be "melancholy" with such beautiful, soft, inspiring colours!!!! Thank you for those gorgeous photos..
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat autumn for nature's chance to show off! Brilliant colors!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could just step into some of these pics...they are aso appealing.
