The foolish human that usually writes this blog went to the Steam Rally on Saturday last weekend and so missed the Heavy Horse show which took place on the Sunday. Something about weather forecasts, he said.
Luckily a few of us were there all weekend giving demonstrations of old-time farming methods. You can see it was cool and a little misty early in the morning.

Les also took some video on his phone of some other "big beasts" leaving the main arena...
Take care.
Beautiful creatures those heavy weight horses, if it wasn't for the enthusiasts who look after them the breeds would become extinct.
ReplyDeleteThose horses are so beautiful. I'm glad they have an easier life now. They are more attractive than the steam engines in my mind. It is so good these engines have been kept in working order for all the generations to see.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see both types of engine, horse and mechanical..pass our thanks to Les!
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL beasts.
ReplyDeleteWe are very fortunate to live in a Mennonite area where religious belief compels them to eschew many of the trappings of modern “civilization” and their fields are still ploughed by teams of draught horses, so we see them often. They are magnificent creatures.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing pictures of those gorgeous horses! And the steam engines were interesting, too. As always, I enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteThe old machines are fascinating but the horses…priceless!
ReplyDeleteWhat beauties they all are! Horses are so important, we even measure the power of a car's engine in horse power.
ReplyDeleteYou and Les sure get around, John! Looks like a popular event judging by the crowds!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics and video!
That horse put you in your place! They are lovely creatures.
ReplyDeleteI so would have loved the horses!
ReplyDeleteWhen visiting Scotland, we went to one of those steam shows. It poured rain all day but we found it so fascinating that we stayed all day. Those horses are gorgeous. Gigi
ReplyDeleteThese are magnificent creatures, John.
ReplyDeletewonderful and talented horses
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! We never worked with draft horses but did have a pony we used for cultivating and other tasks. She was a great little worker.
ReplyDeleteThank you Les and John.
ReplyDeleteHi John - great photos ... and both rallies/shows so well worth seeing - thank you. I saw on the tv they were advertising that heavy horses were being used on National Trust land ... around Scotney Castle, Kent. At last we're going back to older ways - less intrusive on the earth. Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteMy great grandfather spent all his life around heavy horses, in Sheffield and later in rural Nottinghamshire. Perhaps that’s why I love them so much.
ReplyDeleteAh...we get the best of both worlds. Thank you to the dynamic duo.
ReplyDeleteThey are magnificent creatures.
ReplyDeleteHorses are gorgeous animals.
ReplyDeleteWell done you, John. Such fine images of these magnificent creatures. I'd rather have been at this event than the Steam Rally.
