The last week in August seems to be about the right time to meet up with heather in East Anglia, though it's by no means as widespread as in other parts on Britain. Here it's confined to a strip of sandy land in North Norfolk and the Suffolk Sandlings. So I made a note in my diary to visit Westleton Heath in Suffolk. Here are a selection of photos with the heathers set off by green bracken, yellow gorse and the silver trunks of the birch trees.
Absolutely delightful. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Mom always wanted heather in her gardens. It is way to warm here for it to do well.
ReplyDeleteLove the heather. I have a little patch which I treasure.
ReplyDeleteGround cover of purple and green is a unique landscape!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a lovely shade of purple.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos - it is a delight to see this heathland and it looks a wonderful place for a wander.
ReplyDeleteOur little town is surrounded by gorse (do you know you should never kiss your boy/girl friend when there is no gorse in bloom?) (it blooms here and there all year and you can always find at least one flower). But you know I love silver birch - But those shots of silver birch trunks (especially the one with the ferns) are right up my street - beautiful - there isn't another trunk as beautiful (and that includes elephants.)
ReplyDeleteI love the heather season, it's in full bloom up here too.
ReplyDeleteTodo está esplendoroso. Se nota que no hay escasez de agua por ese lugar.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo
It is lovely. We have nothing like that here as far as I know.
ReplyDeleteI grew a couple of heather plants...and was surprised to find it had reall rough branches. I sure would not have wanted to walk through it with bare legs! Or maybe these plants were exceptions.
ReplyDeleteNot exceptions at all, it's a very tough plant, as it needs to be to thrive on the Scottish mountains, for example.
DeleteHi John - for some reason I think back to my youth ...and wonder if Bagshot/Chobham heaths sit on similar rock formations ... sandy. Gorgeous place to visit and I'm so pleased you gave us a chance to join you. Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHeather is always a pleasure to see.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteNice walk. The heather and colors of the scene are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely! Although taller, it reminds me in color and the way it spreads out of desert sand verbena.
ReplyDeleteLovely scenes John.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, I like the one with the heather under the birch trees:)
ReplyDeleteIt would seem that you have timed your visit perfectly!
ReplyDeleteThe mauve and gold is stunning.
