Walks With An Imaginary Dog

While I was out walking a few months ago I met a family with a little girl. "Where's your dog?" she demanded. When I told her I didn't have a dog she turned to her mother and said, "He must have an imaginary dog!"

The only people I saw on my rainy walk this morning were two men with dogs. So lets say I had an imaginary dog - I wouldn't want you to think I'm completely mad.

If you want to meet my imaginary dog, just wait there in the rain; he'll be along soon.

Take care.

  2. I love taking photos in the rain. And that cross with the ivy on it is beautiful. I agree, your imaginary dog made me smile too. I love dogs. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

  4. I have virtual dogs, Max and his two sidekicks in the Lake District most days. Not today because it was raining. The photos are beautifully autumnal.

  5. Imaginary dogs are the best. I much enjoyed hiking with my cat, Smith, but after about a year of travel she grew tired of riding in the car and jumped ship at a particularly nice spot.

  6. Kids can say the funniest things. I once was walking my real dog when this kid said "it's a big little dog", he weighed about 50 kg. It made me laugh. :)

  7. Aw, sweet idea. My camera is my dog. But with dog or without, you were a bit brave (or mad) to venture out taking photos in that downpour. It's been like that here today too.

  8. Love these photos of the rain there. So beautiful. We're expecting rain this weekend. I think you have inspired to head out and take some photos...maybe. So, what is your imaginary dog's name?

  9. I gave him an imaginary stroke - he was absolutely wet through. Glad you kept that rain down your part of the country (nothing imaginary about that)

  10. It sure was raining! How do you keep your camera lens dry? Those are great photos in the rain!

    1. I used my small camera which I can put in my pocket when not in use, then I take photos from under my umbrella! Looks a bit silly but it works.

  11. Your imaginary dog will always be a faithful and true companion, there whenever you want him or her to be there at your side. Actually I had an odd encounter concerning dogs while walking in a local park a couple of months ago. A fellow congratulated me on not having a dog, and launched into a tirade about those who do, and how people are so crazy to spend their money on food and vet bills, and have dog hair all over their house and in their car, and on and on. I was relieved when I was able to extricate myself from the conversation. If ever I encounter him again I'll be sure to pet the imaginary dog at my side and speak in gentle tones. That should really set him off!

    1. I would love to read a report of 'that' interaction when/if it takes place.

  13. Your rainy day shots are wonderful. When I had dogs the only people you would see out in the rain or in a blizzard were walking their dogs too. I had a wardrobe for every possible weather condition because you have to take them out no matter what.

  17. You must be well garbed in waterproof duds...I don't have waterproof shoes...well my plastic clogs are, but they let my feet get wet and freeze.

  19. This is such an imaginative photo story created through a rainy morning walk with an imaginative dog. I like this; “If you want to meet my imaginary dog, just wait there in the rain; he'll be along soon.” Little children are the most imaginative.

  20. Didn't your "dog" ask you why you were taking him/her out in the rain? Looks like you got pretty soaked.

  23. Probably the only reason to be out in such weather — to walk a dog. The photo of the leaves in the gutter has a lovely feeling.

  25. Beautiful photos. Good job the dog was imaginary, it would have been hard to get it clean and dry on returning home:)

  28. Hi John - fun to see those torrents ... while your walking meet-up youngster, sounds like a courageous lady with a vivid imagination ... reminding us all not to forget our minds can feed us. Delightful - cheers Hilary
