In the meantime I would like to thank those of you who have followed my meanderings through this mystic isle; I've enjoyed your company and your comments. And I promised you some more photos of Docwra's Manor so here they are as my farewell gift to you all:
When I was a young and reckless blade I invented an alter-ego who smuggled odd (very odd!) poems into school magazines and even a painting into one of the classrooms. His name, for reasons that I can't begin to explain, was Rath Savinders. Earlier this year Mr Savinders had a little blog for a few months (some of you may have chanced upon it) You can find it by clicking on Mr Savinders' likeness below:
Take care.
John, it's been such a pleasure dipping in and exploring your area with you, through your photos and prose. I am really sorry you're stopping, though I know how much time blogging can swallow up, so I do understand. Hopefully you'll continue to drop in occasionally on some of our blogs. With very best wishes.

ReplyDeleteNo, John! This can't be true! I'll miss hearing from you--a lot! (I had assumed that you were retired!) Your announcement really made me sad--like I'd lost a friend.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you are leaving. Perhaps you’ll pop in and tell us how Cambridge is getting on occasionally?
ReplyDeleteDon’t disappear altogether. I have blogging friends who turn up every three months or more.
Good luck and Auf Wiedersehen!
Thank you for showing me a world I would not have seen otherwise. Best to you and take care. John & >^..^<
ReplyDeleteUgh! I had missed your postings John. Well we all need to do what has to be done. We follow a certain path for a time and then things need to be tweeked some to fit. I've always enjoyed your photographs and commentary from your corner of the world. Take care, and know you served your followers/readers well when it worked for you.
ReplyDeleteI was going to give you 48 hours more, John, before emailing you to see what was wrong. I am so glad there is nothing physically wrong, and I completely understand the burnout factor. In fact, I've already posted a blog announcing that I'm taking a break that will run on Monday. But you need to know, you are a gifted photojournalist and your blogs will be sorely missed. I'm not likely ever to be able to visit East Anglia, but with your blogs I've enjoyed the next best thing. I hope after a rest you'll see fit to try again. Take care, my friend. Jim
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear this, John! I've very much enjoyed your beautiful photos and posts (at both your blogs!) - a wonderful glimpse into another corner of the world. I work and teach as well, and understand photo-blogging takes time. I hope there might be some chance of seeing you here from time to time. Sending best wishes your way.
ReplyDeleteI may have mainly visited other crafters but as my creative mojo wained I found great pleasure in reading other blogs that I found shared my other interests in life or were just very interesting people. Sadly you will be the third to have stopped in the past six months and I know I will miss your posts as I so miss the others. Maybe you will post now and then ...just to let us know how you are getting on ....take care but know you will be missed. xx
ReplyDeleteWell, I've certainly enjoyed visiting your area of England, learning some history, touring wonderful old buildings and churches, appreciating beautiful gardens, but life does sometimes get too busy and we need to scale back. All the best, John.
ReplyDeleteJohn, this is such a disappointment to read, even though I completely understand how difficult it can be to balance everything that you want to do. You have been a fine educator and illustrator of life in your area. If you feel the urge to post something from time to time, please don't suppress the urge! All the best as you move forward to other things.
ReplyDeleteSo sad. Farewell and good-bye...have a lovely rest of your life.
ReplyDeleteFarewell, dear blogger. Your posts were so well researched that I can see why you may have felt overwhelmed. Maybe you could take it down a notch and keep it to photos--or is that your other blog?
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed re living my Cambridge trip through your blog---my first time out of the states and Cambridge made a deep impression.
Thank you for being the first person to "follow" me.
John, I wondered where you had gone! I hope you'll pick up blogging again--if only a once or twice per month posting. Your content is unique and interesting and the photos such fine quality.
ReplyDeleteWishing you well.
Beautiful photos John, I shall miss your blog posts but definitely understand the time issues - hope we shall see you back in blogland at some point in the future.
ReplyDeleteA pity, and you will be missed. You left a legacy, though :-)
ReplyDeleteI shall miss you John.
ReplyDeleteI'm very sad to read this. Like everyone else who has commented I have enjoyed your tales and scenes from Cambridge and will miss your posts. I'll keep you in my 'following' list in case you do return one day - as others say, you could just pop in now and then and post every so often when you feel like it.
ReplyDeleteI do hope to see you here again but if not... take care!
I'm sorry to read this. I have enjoyed your blog, and will miss the posts, even though I didn't comment enough. I'll keep you in my list in case you decide to post again sometime, but I will also take a look at the intriguing Mr. Savinders.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see you go - this is one of my favorite places to learn the history and see the beauty of your country - a place I can never hope to visit. Thank you for the wonderful photos and stories.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, I am glad that you are O.K., and then I have to say I will miss your wonderful postings, John. They have been a source of beauty and interest, but I do understand that creating them has kept you cycling rather more than you have time for. I will keep you on my sidebar so your posts to date are available, and hopefully in the future you will find time to add more.
ReplyDeleteYou will be missed! I hope you will leave it up so that we can look back but that is selfish. I love you photos and intelligent blog. Thank you for your hard word. gin
ReplyDeleteJohn, thank you for allowing my the privilege of getting to know you a wee bit and seeing your part of the world, and how beautiful it is. Best Wishes!
ReplyDeleteI feel a pit of sadness in my tummy. It has been an honor to enjoy your blog... your brilliant photography and writing, and your sense of humor! Blogging does take up so much time, to do it well. I am continually falling weeks behind on my return comments. There is just no time for a full working fellow! It is the ideal activity for retirement, so I hope one day, when we are retired, we can "meet" again :^) All the best John.
ReplyDeleteHappy cycling
ReplyDeleteI will miss your wonderful posts and photographs! Farewell and thank you to you, too:)
ReplyDeleteWhat? You mean you have more important things to do than THIS?? I'm flabbergasted!!
ReplyDeleteAnd a little dismayed. I'll miss your posts - are you sure you can't just limit yourself to one a month or something??
John: I'm so sorry I won't be reading about your adventures anymore, though I completely understand about the time it takes. Just because you're no longer blogging don't be a stranger! I hope you will continue to visit my blog as well as some of our fellow bloggers who gather here and keep in touch at least a little bit. Take care! Carolyn H.
ReplyDeletetis the season for giving up on blogs....
ReplyDeleteso any people have done it recently
live long and prosper
Thanks John and good luck.
ReplyDeleteYou will be missed . . .
ReplyDeleteBest wishes in all that you do,
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
I have been off the blogging scene for a few weeks and now finding it hard to get enthused enough to post again I understand how you feel especially with the time factor.
ReplyDeleteIt has been an honour and a privilege to have conversed with you via blogging and as many before have said 'yourself and your delightful blog will be sorely missed John!'
I hope sometime in the future our paths cross again, until then take care and enjoy life John. :-)
I'm a bit slow on the uptake here John, in catching up with your news. As mentioned by so many others, you, your wonderful photos, stories and your marvellous sense of humour will be greatly missed in the blogging world. Thank you so much for the joy and entertainment you've brought. May you find joy in a more manageable, balanced life, but please know your posts will be welcomed back anytime you feel so inclined (we live in hope!). All the best and keep well. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteJohn, your epic adventures will be sorely missed by me and my family. I loved the stories and the history of a land that I may never see, except through your eyes. My love to you, dear cousin! Take care.
vedere ancora qualche tua bella foto.
Un saluto dall' Italia.
Ciao
Loretta
I seem to be a very late comer. I had thought I didn’t see your new entry on my dashboard for quite a while and today came here to leave season’s greetings and found I lost touch with you. I really miss your posts although I was not a constant commenter. Thanks for your scenes of Britain, where I’ve been longing for, and your lovely visits to my blog, since we met each other. Take care and have a nice long break from blogging.
ReplyDeleteYoko
Amd I have been so behind o my blog-reading that I missed this post entirely. I'm sorry to see you give it up--like so many of the others, I was so happy to get to know the history of a part of the world that is my heritage. Cousin John, you did an awesome job. Perhaps you can write just once in a while? I get far behind on mine too; it is a commitment that I sometimes question and like you feel the pressure to post. But we're our own bosses, so we can post or not as we like. I hope you stay well and stay in touch. It has been a pleasure to get to know you and your home. Give love and hugs to Aunt Flo.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and Happy New Year! I wish you that the coming year will bring you peace, good health, good cheer and prosperity.
ReplyDeleteHi John wishing you a healthy and safe 2013 with lots of photo opportunities . Hoping one day you will find the time to post again from your corner of the world.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nice comment! What lies beyond the sea is the perennial question :-)
ReplyDeleteHi John, hope you've been well and enjoying the new year. It's great to know you're still around in the blog world, and hoping you'll find time again one day to post again.
ReplyDeleteAwww! John, maybe as Jack says you can take us on one of your walks every now and then when you have some spare time, you know we'd love it..take care and look after yourself..
ReplyDeletesimply beautifully captured shots...lovely!
ReplyDeleteMarch 17th - how lovely to get a comment from you today John - does that mean you are coming back to join us again? Do hope so - I miss your lovely photographs.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very late message- as with you, life is keeping me busy. I shall miss your photographs- wishing you well and happy. Jane xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to see you go. Maybe you will come back very soon
ReplyDeleteNice to get a comment!
ReplyDeleteI Hope all is well.
Beautiful photograph, beautiful flowers, fantastic colours:) Greetings
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers. Enjoy whatever it is your planning to do. I've been thinking of doing the same myself.
