The temperature last night was -10C and not much warmer this morning. Not only that but a generous helping of freezing fog too! And of course the remains of the snow, now welded icily to the ground. A grand day to go out for a walk then! I took some photos of course....
And just to show you that the horse wasn't the only one with frosty whiskers, take a look at yours truly....
....OK, some of it is grey anyway, but there's a lot of frost and ice in there! Brrrrr!
Take care.
Wonderful pictures all. The horse though is the best for I've never seen such a thing before. You can keep the sub-zero cold there.
ReplyDeleteHi John,
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit nippy wasn`t it! I went out at midday and the thermometer said it was minus 5!
The frost does make some good patterns though, just feel a bit sorry for that horse!

The horse looks mature. And the lane shot is pure art.
ReplyDeleteA great collection, John.
ReplyDeleteBrrr, I feel sorrier for the horse than for you. At least you could go home and warm up with a mug of hot chocolate! Lovely pics to enjoy from my warm study.
ReplyDeleteFrosty beauty, - even the whiskers have a certain icy appeal.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased it was you out walking in those icy conditions and not me ....... Superb collection of pics.. I love them all. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteI'm having a hard time picking my favorite image here, John! It's a toss up between the beautiful horse and the teasel beneath it... Will you consider entering one of them in my 'Weekly Top Shot' meme? We're on Week #17 and I'd love to see you share with me and my readers! Here's this weeks' link: http://www.theviewfromrighthere.com/blog/?p=6220
ReplyDeleteBrilliant photographs. We have nothing left of the frost and snow up here in North Yorkshire - just grey, bitterly cold and miserable.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos - I like them all but the one of the teazles is outstanding:)
ReplyDeleteWow, fab from the very first shot of the frozen spiderweb, now that's something I haven't seen before, mind you non of the rest are either. Poor Mr. Ed, did he brrrrrrrrrrr! as you snapped his portrait. Now that's a very handsome beard you're sporting there John.
ReplyDeleteI like all the pics but especially no.7,( the road) and the spider webs. Don't feel sorry for the horse - I'm sure that he's quite warm in spite of his frosty whiskers. He's got a winter coat on him so he's used to spending time outside and his body will have adjusted to winter temps. The frost on his coat shows that his body heat is being held close to his skin by his fur which is acting as good insulation.
ReplyDeleteSome great photos here, I was glad to see that although the horse had frosty whiskers he did have a nice warm coat on. The teasel heads look fantastic too.
ReplyDeletethat spiderweb in the first photograph is really something special; love it! And the dear horse; what a great shot. Minus ten; glad you got out there 'mongst it all and did some photo-shooting; we reaped the rewards of! Do you wear gloves when taking a photo? I have to wonder...
ReplyDeleteIt feels cold but so beautiful. I think the photo of the frost on the horse whiskers is one of masterpieces of yours. All the photos are breathtaking. -10 degrees C! Keep you warm.
ReplyDeleteYoko
These are wonderful too... love the frosty gray bearded guy :^)
ReplyDeleteSUPER collection of photos!
ReplyDeleteIt seems you all enjoyed them so the effort was worthwhile. Update: according to a neighbour the temperature was actually -13.5C. And yes I do wear gloves but have to take them off to fiddle with the camera, this convinces the horse that I'm about to get sugar lumps out of my pocket - in order to take his picture I had to keep running away and grab a shot before he stuck his muzzle into the camera lens!
ReplyDeleteAn excellent set of images John! You really must drape a scarf around your neck and face the next time you are out on a frosty day.lol! Love all the pics but my fave is the horse...an excellent image.
