It had to happen of course. After the glorious, bright autumn weather of the last week or two we are now paying the price. England is grey, gloomy and dismal. It's been as Bill Bryson described it so wittily "like living inside some Tupperware". It's been a day to be indoors with the lights on. So just in case anyone was wondering what Cambridge looks like on a November evening I took my camera out for a trip in the drizzle....

ReplyDeleteThese are brilliant photos John, I love the one of the cobbles and the market square actually looks quite cheerful. I love Cambridge, used to go often when we lived in Saffron Walden. It's real November weather now which is fine with me, I love the changes in the seasons.
ReplyDeleteWhat super photos - so atmospheric. I love Cambridge and have seen it in most weathers as we used to visit quite often when we lived in Spalding. I love the next to the last photos as, even in the rain, that street looks so warm and inviting.

ReplyDeleteJohn, you took advantage of rain and streetlights to shoot such fabulous shots. These are the scenes I would like to capture and I find difficult mostly. I like the old cobblestones shining in the rain and the subtle reflections on the wet pavement.

ReplyDeleteDespite what everyone thinks, including those who live here, this part of England doesn't have much rainfall - around 23" a year, which almost allows it to be classified as semi-arid! Lots of drizzle and showers though. The gaslamps are sadly all powered by electricity these days though they still look attractive.
That allleyway with the "passing shadows" is haunting. The shadows look like people in old-style clothing, shades of the past. Nice work.
