Stand by for more photographs of autumn colour on this November post from Cambridge University's Botanic Garden as the season continues in this part of the world.
The Garden is also the venue for a photography exhibition which will continue until December 20th....
….the standard of photography is absolutely superb and can also be viewed here:
The sun is very low in the sky at this time of year making some shots impossible but also giving unusual effects at times....
A botanical joke:
Lots of children want to know if there are any deadly plants in the garden. Yes, indeed there are. In fact there's one so dangerous that if you lie down underneath it for just ten minutes you will certainly be dead. What is it?
Love the water lily joke! What an exquisite gsrden.ReplyDelete
All that foliage, all that water, and not a bird in sight!ReplyDelete
Birds seen recently in the garden: Mallard, Moorhen, Wood Pigeon, Feral Pigeon, Sparrowhawk, Grey Heron, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Jay, Magpie, Long-Tailed Tit, Rook, Jackdaw, Dunnock, House Sparrow, Black-Headed Gull, Pheasant, Wren, Pied Wagtail, House Martin, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, Blackbird and, of course, Robin. During winter I'd expect to see Redwing, Fieldfare and maybe even Waxwing. There's also a pair of Peregrine Falcons that patrol the town and I'm sure they drop in for lunch from time to time. Not too bad for a city-centre site.Delete
The colors are so beautiful there. Ah, getting ready for winter's quiet.ReplyDelete
These are really excellent photos. Great colours and composition. Thanx.ReplyDelete
I love the way you've used the light to focus on certain aspects, and putting these against dark shadows really highlights them. What a great collection and a small amount of color is much more easily enjoyed, I think.ReplyDelete
That is a gorgeous garden! I can see why photographers come here. I would too if I lived closer. :) P.S. Thank you for your kind comments on my recent post. I'm glad you enjoy my ramblings.ReplyDelete
A beautiful garden with beautiful colours and scenery. Excellent photos, John!ReplyDelete
Hi John - well done on your joke! Loved seeing the Botanical Gardens ... they are gorgeous. Love these outside poster stands they're starting to use for various small exhibitions - I've only seen them outside the Guildhall in London ... but the ones shown here ... no wonder they garner wonderment. Thanks - cheers HilaryReplyDelete
That is magical and I love the joke.ReplyDelete
Wow - how magical!ReplyDelete
I've enjoyed your visits to the Botanical Gardens throughout this year. They are looking stunning at the moment. How wonderful to have the photographic exhibition outdoors:)ReplyDelete
Delightful images John! Autumn seems to be hanging on this year, a wonderfully colourful season!ReplyDelete
Love the joke and great to read of a good selection of birds you have seen at the gardens!
Glorious, poetic, romantic colours, j'adore these images John ✨ It must be getting a bit chillier now though right?ReplyDelete
11 or 12 degrees C this week.Delete
Yup.. that's chilly 😉Delete
Lovely pictures and what a beautiful, serene garden. Aren't we lucky to be having such great weather to enjoy it this year? The colour near me is still clinging on but I'm seeing the drabber garb creeping in. I'm going to enjoy looking at the International Garden Photographer of the Year link.Delete
OW! Bad joke! But I will try it out on my grandies.ReplyDelete
Love all those autumn colours. Sadly all our leaves are on the ground now, and as of this morning, covered with about 10cm of that cold white stuff.... I can hardly say the word, starts with S....
Hi John, beautiful photography!! I do love the low, slanting light. It seems almost like a spotlight that highlights some plants over others. Beautiful fall colors too.ReplyDelete
Wow, it's looking fabulous in autumn attire!ReplyDelete
hahahaha! Beware, the water lilly! The shadows and light in the first photo are especially wonderful, but all the photos completely captivate me.ReplyDelete
Beautiful light for sure! I think some of your photos belong in the photography exhibit!ReplyDelete
A lovely set of images John.ReplyDelete
Not so sure about the joke telling though.
ha ha, that's my kind of joke. Beautiful photos John.ReplyDelete
Wow those are some wonderful colors. I love how you show your part of the world to us. I am always amazed at what you see and what you are doing.ReplyDelete
Autumn is beautifulReplyDelete
Oh how I love the colours of fall! Lovely photos.ReplyDelete
How can one possibly think November to be "melancholy" with such beautiful, soft, inspiring colours!!!! Thank you for those gorgeous photos..ReplyDelete
You can't beat autumn for nature's chance to show off! Brilliant colors!ReplyDelete
