In Search Of Sun

No, I've not flown off to the Mediterranean, or even Provence as some of the following photos might suggest; just toddling around my home patch where thousands of suns can currently be seen in a couple of small fields. They are not just plots of sunflowers however, but "cover crops" of many different plants which will later be ploughed in to enrich the soil. When winter comes these fields will be popular with the birds. In the meantime they are the photographer's delight.

And for the last couple of days that big sun up in the sky has made a welcome appearance too.

Take care.

  4. Esta planta me fascina. las que he podido ver por el campo, no han crecido muy altas, por la gran escasez que hay de agua.
    Feliz fin de semana.

  6. You have certainly cheered up my day - wish the field behind my bungalow was sown with sunflowers - next weekend it will be the car park for the Wensleydale Show.

  9. So uplifting. You can’t but smile when you see a field of sunflowers. I’ve been bringing home a few every week from the farmers market for a cheery summer bouquet.

  16. Stunning beauty in the sunflowers and in your photos, love that first one. They are cover crops to be plowed in? I would have guessed grown for sale as bouquets or for their seeds or oil.

  17. There is something innately joyful about sunflowers, isn't there? You're fortunate to be able to see such an abundance of them. My neighbours opposite have grown two in a pot and I'm happy to see those.

  22. What is it about a sunflower that brings a smile to my face? You too? I have a volunteer plant that keeps blooming even as the goldfinches devour the oldest blossoms.
