Simply extraordinary! I have just one or two plants with a dozen blooms in a season - in the apartment gardens. And there's then this field of peonies! Yes, no words. But your close ups are also very well done! Thanks!
Be still my heart! I thought my one surviving plant was awesome this year with seven huge pale pink blowsy blooms - but yes, they are over so quickly. I cut three for the house, the fragrance so lovely, one for my granddaughter to take to her apartment, and let the others bend and bow in the spring breeze. Obviously that's a 'flower farm' and as not picked while in bud for shipment to florists/stores etc., I assume they being grown to sell as tubers/roots later, am I correct? Of course I'm not really in the right zone here - they prefer cooler temps - but after waiting several years for blooms I have been rewarded a little!
Peonies are - "Known to represent wealth and honor, while also embodying romance and love"
Thanks for your recent comments John - life has been somewhat overwhelming lately and I've been so behind with comments, but have read your always lovely country posts. Getting ready to cross the pond soon, been away far too long due to COVID - fingers crossed Devon will put on splendid garden shows, and the countryside will be beautiful as always in late spring. Thanks for the additional information, Mary. Some have been harvested for cut-flowers, but many have gone past that point and have been left in the field. I know that there have been problems recruiting enough seasonal staff recently, since Brexit but not sure how much impact that's had.
Oooh - these are my favourites - I love them ... gosh I'd love to walk through those fields ... fabulous photos ... and glad to see Mary's comment about their symbolism - cheers ... we're having fresh cooling heavy showers at the moment - Hilary
Fields of tulips amaze this prairie boy. I'm used to seeing fields of grain that go on forever. But I do like the tulip fields and would like to see a field of tulips some day.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I'll try to answer any questions via a comment or e-mail within the next day or two (no hard questions, please!).
Indeed no need for word.s. They are so beautiful but sadly don't bloom for long which makes them questionable for small gardens I think.
ReplyDeleteSublime.
ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love the way peonies suddenly just throw of their petals. They are so beautiful in your photos it is sad they have such a short season.
ReplyDeleteIt's remarkable that they stand up so straight. We have to support ours with a wire cage.
ReplyDeleteWe put cages around ours. Otherwise they would be on the ground.
ReplyDeleteGlorious! My favourite bloom!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful in every way.
ReplyDeleteWow! So lovely! Thanks, John!
ReplyDeleteA veces faltan las palabras, para manifestar tanta belleza, para eso están las imágenes que hablan por ellas solas.
ReplyDeleteStunning! Native? Or cultivated?
ReplyDeleteCultivated. Flower-growing is a small but important part of the farming economy around here.
DeleteI love peonies but don't have them in the garden as the blooms only last a day or so. I've never seen a whole field of them. They look amazing.

ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous sight. I never thought of fields of peonies before - how wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! Their beauty doesn't last long, but you have caught exactly the right moment.
ReplyDeleteWow! 😍
ReplyDeleteGorgeous all! A flower farm - what a sight to behold. Was it fragrant with all those flowers blooming?
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful John.
ReplyDeleteNo words necessary.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. I can only imagine what the air must smell like.
ReplyDeleteGlorious!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful crop - every bit as good as onions....
ReplyDeleteWhat stunning display of peonies! I’ve never seen such a spacious field of peonies in person.
ReplyDeleteNo need for words, is right! I can’t even imagine how that many peonies smell. Like heaven, I guess.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely GORGEOUS! Enjoy your day, hugs, Edna B.
ReplyDeleteStunning images! Thank you John.
ReplyDeleteJust amazingly beautiful
ReplyDeleteHard to imagine a lovelier sight than a field of peonies and your images are delightful.
