Earlier this week we went for a walk in Thetford Forest. Most of the forest consists of square blocks of dark conifers, planted very close together in straight rows. But through the middle of it runs the River Little Ouse which has small areas of mixed woodland, paths and tracks, meadows for horses, sheep and cattle, a few farms and even the village of Santon Downham. Lets go and explore.....
And as it's Friday - I think - we're due for a little music. Here's Jackie Oates singing Dave Wood's song "May The Kindness". Never heard of either of them? Take a listen....
Nice yes! I love all the photos from the forest. My favorites, however, are the one of the horse (beautiful!) and the last one showing reflections on the water (just gorgeous!). Thank you so much for sharing. You have a great day, hugs, Edna B.
Those are such lovely photos, John. That last one looks like a Monet painting. That is a lovely song too. We will need kindness in the USA after this divisive election. Hopefully, with a Biden win, we can find compromises, coalitions, and work together for all people.
Snap we both had a similar idea - to the woods let us go. I love the photo of the sun sparkling through the trees, it has created a really magically effect.
Hi John - wonderful song - beautiful acoustics ... I'm loving it. I'm glad there's some natural woodland amongst the pines ... it looks gorgeous ... a huge felled silver birch ... and matching horse! Take care and if the weather's as lovely up there as here ... enjoy - Hilary
Those rectilinear plantations of a single species of conifer (usually Red Pine around here) have aptly been called green deserts, and I hope we are on the way to phasing them out.
Looks like you had another great day for the walk in the forest, John. The browning ferns and the yellows and golds of the leaves are wondrous colors of autumn. The music and singer were new to me as well and an enjoyable listen.
Always enjoy a walk in the forest John, Thetford Forest is very beautiful in autumn. I especially love the mossy green tree trunks against the autumn red and orange 💚💛
How I wish Roger was able for us to get out like this...there is just a peace that comes when out in areas like this. Love that last shot, and love the horse, or course. Will listen to the music later...
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I'll try to answer any questions via a comment or e-mail within the next day or two (no hard questions, please!).

ReplyDeleteJust the music I needed. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
ReplyDeleteI love all of those photos, but the reflections blow me away. I can see a Van Gogh painting in them.
Dark conifers do at least provide a good backdrop for the bright autumn leaves, as in your second photo. Love the shimmeriness in the last one too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful the tree with golden leaves hanging like little gold coins
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful forest to visit and walk through
ReplyDeleteA beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful walk and then a lovely song to finish up the post! Super!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful walk there, John. The music is beautiful as well. We loved listening to that. Thank you!

ReplyDeleteThe undergrowth in the photos, especially the ferns are so pretty. Great series!

ReplyDeleteOh, forgot to mention that there's a Thetford near here. I think you made that comment before about names here being ones from Britain.
