After the sunniest May on record the weather has turned more "English" this week with overcast skies and the threat of showers. It's a bit cooler too, just right for a walk in fact, so I wandered to the neighbouring village of Shepreth to take a few photos. Here are a selection of pictures from my walk:
The cottage on the corner of Angle Lane which everybody admires.
Closed only temporarily by Coronavirus.
now used by small businesses.
in three or four minutes. But, as we are advised to avoid using public transport unless absolutely necessary, I'll enjoy the walk back.
I'll show you some more photos of the village in the next post.
Take care.
Outstanding photos! I particularly like the cottage garden pics. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMany, many thanks.
ReplyDeleteQuite a beautiful place to walk around. Those old homes and building are so beautiful. Looking forward to the next post.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this walk to the village and would have liked to stop into the Shepreth Plough if it was open and hopefully it will be able to resume business at some point. Too many small business are giving up and shutting down, victims of the virus outbreak. The thatched roofs on those houses always have fascinated me and I wonder if they are sturdy. Maybe one day you will take us for a ride on that train, but a walk was really nicer now, John.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful little town! I'm glad that you got a bit of rain. I was talking to my friend in Cromer a couple of days ago and he was thinking he might have to water his garden if he didn't get any rain soon.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful English village.
ReplyDeleteIt looks such a pretty place. It has been lovely to have cooler walks and cloudy skies these last few days. Much better for walking and photos!
ReplyDeleteSome lovely quintessential English buildings surrounded by the nature that this wonderful spring has delivered to us.
ReplyDeleteI was also amazed by the view of the cottage on the corner of Angle Lane ..., like in a fairy tale. Then I also like the view of the house on High Street.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, John.
Have a nice weekend.
My word, if there was ever a stereotypical image of England (for those of us who don't live there at least) that thatched cottage is it! If I could sit there enjoying scones and clotted cream I would think that perfection in life had finally arrived!
ReplyDeleteJohn, please advise when the cottage on the corner of Angle Lane goes up for sale!!!!! They must leave the daisies and climbing roses though!
ReplyDeleteSo absolutely lovely there - thank you for sharing your walk through such perfect English countryside.
Now I'm truly homesick - and of course can't come home yet.
Mary -
I agree with all above John, that was the prettiest, most English walk I've been on.. since your last walk! Gosh could it possibly be any more different from the walk I took you on 😀
ReplyDeleteHow lovely, such a beautiful little village. I love the daisies in front of the thatched cottage on Angle Lane:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful village. I love all the houses and other structures. That train looks so very inviting. I'd enjoy a ride on it. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the photos. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.
ReplyDeleteWonderful views of the thatched roofs.
ReplyDeleteHidden cottage looks so beautiful. If the foliage gets much higher, it really will be hidden!
ReplyDeleteYour photos bring me such joy, John! I love the thatched roofs, and that cottage, yes, much to admire there.
ReplyDeleteI love anything with a thatched roof and that barn is marvelous. Love all these...
ReplyDeleteThe thatched roofs, the countryside in the fourth photo...perfect!
ReplyDeleteAnother charming series of images John - thank you for sharing your part of our world. That cottage is indeed captivating and I would love to take a walk through those woods. Keep safe!
ReplyDeleteI remember a page in one of my school books that that was devoted to a "bird's eye view of an English Manor" and this is just a wonderful view of an English village, and I enjoyed it so much!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the beautiful walk. It's like you are living in an English Calendar.
ReplyDeleteHi John - easy to walk back now while the weather is better ... but if you were down here - you'd be blown home! I must get to the beach and see how the sea is doing. Stunning village photos though - very neat and quite delightful to look at - all the best Hilary
ReplyDeleteWow, awesome photos John. The village is stunning and what a great place to enjoy a stroll.
ReplyDeleteThe All of these scenes seem very "English" to me. The cottage in your first photo is a real beauty.
ReplyDeleteThe woodland view is my favourite.
