Poppies A-Plenty

It's been a good year for the poppies. Everywhere I wander I find their cheery scarlet faces smiling up at me, as farmers become a little less eager to spray every last inch of their land. So here's a pocketful of poppy pics just for you....

I've also glimpsed, as I wander near my home, another of those completely red fields of poppies. I've gone to the trouble of taking compass bearings and plotting them on a map, only to find that there are no public roads of paths within a mile of it, so no chance of photographing that one.

*******
If you're suffering from too much summer heat in your part of the world then I hope you'll manage to keep cool any way you can....

Take care.

  3. beautiful photos -- I love the red poppies in other lands -- we have the orange/yellow ones called "California poppies," which are lovely, too, but a little 'oh-hum' after seeing them all my life. Those ducks have the right idea.

  6. A field of poppies is a joy to behold. I expect that you had the ducks move over a little so that you could dip your feet in the water!

  11. The poppies are lovely and go very well with the daisies. In our neck of the woods, they used to spray herbicide on the side of the roads to keep the weeds down. There was enough of an outcry that now they just mow it a couple of times during the summer. So now we have many more wildflowers to enjoy as we drive and walk along the roads. The milkweed is coming back and last year and this year the monarch butterflies have returned after a very long absence.
Our summer has been very pleasant. Sunny and not overly hot.

  19. Poppies are found in New England, but they seem to be fairly uncommon. Years ago I had poppies in a flower bed at a previous home and they were a delight.
