May's Garden
It's May, so I'm taking you to the Rock Garden at the University Botanic Garden in Cambridge. It was constructed in the 1950s using stone from Milnthorpe in Cumbria, and is home to plants from the mountainous areas of the world.
In order to deal with the harsh climate in their natural environment these plants are mostly small and flower during the spring to take advantage of the brief growing season at altitude.
I clamber about here every time I visit. You see, this was off-limits when I came here as a small child, my mother being years ahead of the game when it came to health and safety! As a result perhaps, I spent years hiking around in mountains once I got the chance.
Lets just ramble around and enjoy the diversity of the plants on display.
Take care.
LOL (laughing out loud, as they say) at the last shot. She must not read English, but also does not look at all like the pictured man climbing stairs) Yay Momma Mallard who found a perfectly flat place to sunbathe. Loved the photos of the precious mountain loving blooms.
ReplyDeleteLiving proof if if was needed that ducks cannot read.

ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of the pretty and delicate flowers in the rock garden. It looks like the rules don't apply to ducks:)
ReplyDeleteOh those rule breaking ducks 😀 Beautiful shots John, Botanical gardens are the best 💙
ReplyDeleteLove your last photo! Some of these flowers are similar to ones I see in the woods here in Oregon.
ReplyDeleteThe duck is very cute :) There is something so comforting about great chunks of rocks. The flowers are beautiful in their delicate, colourful ways.
