On Thursday morning the thermometer read -6 degrees C, fairly mild compared with the havoc being wrought by the Polar Vortex elsewhere in the world, but cold enough to add a sparkling frost to the remains of Wednesday's light snowfall. The low sun angled through the trees and illuminated the mist rising slowly from the little chalk-stream. Here are some suitably wintry scenes - and a hint of optimism in the last shot. Maybe Spring is on its way after all.
Take care.
Lovely 'art' shots John, but nothing can compare - for lifting the spirits - with the catkins.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! The Hellebores are a joy at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the frosty morning there and the beautiful sun rays through the trees. Yes to the hints of spring!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I shold have gone out today and get a few photos in the snow but could not bring myself to go out in the snow to do so, it seemed to snow most of the day
ReplyDeleteThe chair needs a cushion.;-)
ReplyDeleteSuper frosty photo's John!
Beautiful wintry photos, too cold ye to sit in the chair but we can dream of warmer days to come:)
ReplyDeleteThese scenes are magical, John. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteThe mist gives things a nice touch, John.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky were you John, another lovely hoar frost. I always think that it is amazing how the Hellebores and Snowdrops survive and thrive so well in the very cold weather - there delicate petals do not suffer at all.
ReplyDeleteI love the way the sun is filtering through on some of these...love that chair. And just in general love them all.
ReplyDeleteI was going to pick out a favorite, but I can't. All outstanding images, and the filtered light and icy crystals really make things interesting!
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful shots! Isn't it amazing how in the midst of all that frost and cold that spring sneaks up on us?
ReplyDeleteGreat photos as always, love those catkins.
ReplyDeleteI love that lonely chair, John. Waiting obviously for someone to sit on when warmer days arrive.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
Hi John - love the catkins ... I can see buds down here and snippets of green ... we had a sprinkling of the white stuff ... but it's melting fast now - enjoy the weekend - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh John they are incroyable captures, a veritable winter wonderland! I'm a wee bit envious of your -6 degrees 😉
ReplyDeleteSuch beauty in the combinations of cold, air, vegetation and the water...looking like steam even. It's showing us how the heat from the water still evaporates it into the air we breath. A great collection and my gratitude to you for walking about to capture it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, love the sunbeams.
ReplyDeleteMother Nature's frosty winter wonderland. Beautiful images, John.
ReplyDeleteOh yes,John...your catkins are away ahead of mine. I watch them anxiously, but they haven't started to length and grow fat and golden. I think spring will come to you before she dances over this way.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit and leaving a comment including a summary of this post.; “Frost, mists and low-angled sun have been catching my eye on recent walks, as well as a scattering of snow and a similar scattering of snowdrops.” All the photos show that your braving the cold was paid off. I especially like the images of the light streaming through morning mist (#2 and 11). The weather here has been unsatisfactory cold; the highest temperature has been below 10 degrees C but not cold enough for frost or snow.
ReplyDeleteYoko
Wonderful, atmospheric photos! Winter poems!
ReplyDeleteCatkins in bloom here too--saw some very similar you yours when we went out the other day, covered in light snow and frost. The one of the dried blossom heads is my favorite. One day I will plant snowdrops ad hellebores! I never remember in the fall.
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing your series of beautiful photos.
ReplyDeletehave a great day
What a wonderful morning to be able to get outdoors. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteI loved them when you posted them, and I still love them...may even appreciate them a bit more with the heat we are having now....
