Just a few pictures from the Yesteryear Road Run which was held at the weekend. The run was in aid of Magpas, the emergency medical charity. These wonderful vehicles proceeded through many Cambridgeshire villages including Grantchester where these photos were taken.
When I saw some of the vehicles I though "Hey, that's not very old!" then I realised that it's me that's getting older; I was familiar with them from nearly half a century ago!
They certainly are a nostalgic line-up of fascinating vehicles John. I am especially keen on the green truck! When I was a little boy, my favorite toys were the matchbox cars, which these remind me of, with a smile :^)
The old cars are so much more interesting and pleasing to look at than modern ones which all look the same in their streamlined functionality. I really like the last one. At the risk of being laughed at by the male followers of this blog, I'll guess it's a Bentley?
A beautiful, and mostly exotic lineup. The MG-TD in the first picture is much like my friend Eric's, except his lack the mirrors on the fenders. And we have lots of tractors like the one in the second picture. There are even a few of those Fiats around, although I haven't seen one quite decked out like that one.
What a great sight that must have been - I love vintage cars. I'll settle for the MG in the first photo but what I'd really, really like is a 1930s Lagonda!
Oldies but goldies hey John. Somehow they just have so much more character than the cars of today. You can see that people who own these beauties spend a lot of time (and money) on keeping them tip top! My fav from this selection is third car down, so cute.
Oh, how I love vintage cars! Just imagine all that history engraved into the little scratches and bumps that, hopefully, were restored. I guess the fact that they’re being shown off on exhibits, and others that are on the streets, is enough evidence that they’ve stood the test of time.
Wow, this is a winner parade! Looking at this photoset reminds me of my grandpa’s Ford Model T which he regularly drives around the neighborhood. Oftentimes, I hitch in. It was an incredible feeling to ride in such a Victorian car! =)
How I miss going to vintage car shows! >.< Anyway, next year will be vintage car year, and I promise not to miss every vintage car shows I can possibly attend to. It’s just incredible to see these classic beauties in a parade that displays not only their physical beauty, but also their mechanical splendor.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I'll try to answer any questions via a comment or e-mail within the next day or two (no hard questions, please!).
The farmer has a little old Fergie tractor he bought in 1947 - he treats it rather like he would treat a pet.
ReplyDeletea wonderful assortment of aged and cared-for vehicles
ReplyDeleteSo many interesting shots showing various types of vehicles

ReplyDeleteI'll take the green and white delivery van but then my eye caught the Triumph motorcycle. Just roll it into the back of the van for me.
ReplyDeleteAh, so not everyone in GB is glued to the Olympics.

Love these vintage cars John ... if I had a choice I'd take a spin in that sporty white convertible at the top ... Very classy.

ReplyDeleteDo these cars come with a dedicated mechanic? If so, I'll take the MG convertible.
ReplyDeleteThe green and cream van is the one for me! Lovely, must have been quite a parade! Yes it's a bit scary to be of that "vintage" isn't it!
ReplyDeleteGreat fun! I love the Co-op van and the Austin Seven:)
