Things To Do On A Rainy Day
A day spent indoors yesterday. Cups of tea; listened to plenty of music; watched a few birds on the feeders; a bit of dusting; cooked a curry; read some interesting blogs; solved a Sudoku or two; and fiddled around with some photos while being thoroughly disgusted with myself for not going outside in spite of the weather....
....still trying to figure out how to use that setting known as "polar co-ordinates". This started off as a photo of the gate of King's College. I also found a nice shot of the Chapel. One day, hopefully quite soon, I'll take you inside King's College Chapel. Many of you will have been there but I think I can show you some things you might have missed.
I'm always attracted to the odd and the untidy places in the world. A house I photographed back in the summer fitted both categories. How about this for an outside feature....
...and meanwhile in an auction house I came across this bizarre furniture arrangement...
...makes you wonder why more people don't have a rocking chair on top of their sideboard. Is that Colonel Custer? I also tried to get something different out of some rather straightforward shots of autumn foliage....
...but never found enough variety to make a series of pictures. And while snapping away in Mill Road, Cambridge I wandered into the cemetery, an evocative old place with a kind of Gothic-Victorian atmosphere - sort of Burke-and-Hare-meet-Hound-of-the-Baskervilles...
...and then another cup of tea; a tune on the squeezebox; cheese on toast; a little Mozart and an hour of Charles Mingus; a glass of port; and so to bed.
Take care.
Take care.
Or your could put some fence up like I did and get soaked to the skin! ;)
ReplyDeleteNot a particularly great day was it John?!
I love the photo of the cemetery, as you say, looks very Gothic, you can imagine it on the cover of Bram Stokers` Dracula!

...sounds like a wonderful day to me! I loved the Kings College; I wondered about the next photo; was it a house of ill-repute I wondered? The rocking chair, yes great thinking ... on top a sideboard, of course. We just need to be fed the idea. Curry was happening my house too today; making pies with it tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteFun to see how you have turned the autumn shot into spring. Love King's College Chapel too and the others as well as your quaint sense of humour.
ReplyDeleteYou had a pottering sort of day in fact:) It would be nice to see a post about King's College Chapel, I've only been in once and that was many years ago.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more on King's College Chapel. As for the yard art, it looks as if it's been neglected. I guess people lose interest.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect day to me, especially the rainy weather, sooooo tired of blue sky!! Even though you were stuck indoors you've managed to put together a very entertaining group of eclectic images..enjoyed a lot!
ReplyDeleteI have had days like that and reflected back "what a waste of a day". At least you did some dusting.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good day to me John.
ReplyDeleteI like your description of your day John, a truly pottery day. I also approve of cheese on toast, one of the best things ever... in fact I may have to make some now...Jane x
ReplyDeleteIt was fascinating to read about your day. Very ordinary, but it sounded enjoyable. We could kick off a lengthy debate about whether a day like that is wasting time, or rejuvenating our energy, or satisfyingly solitary, or something else.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Kings College Chapel John... so will look forward to seeing your pics ? Rainy days are few and far between here but I guess it's the same as a scorching hot 40C* day ...too hot to venture out.
ReplyDeleteIt’s been raining on and off three days after consecutive 34 days of chills and sunshine here. I don’t dislike rainy days, there’s so much to do indoors, but freezing rain is just depressing. I averted my eyes from the third image. Look forward to the inside of the King’s College Chapel.
ReplyDeleteOK, there'll definitely be a King's College Chapel post as soon as I can manage it, so I'll have to refuse your kind offer to put up fencing, John. I like to think of it as recharging the batteries, Jack. Just in case the Mingus and Mozart reference sounds a bit intellectual let me say that the morning's music included Lady GaGa and Coldplay!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly know how to make good use of a rainy day... love the way you see and describe your world.
ReplyDeleteI definitely do NOT think that was wasted time. Everyone needs, in fact deserves a day like that now and again.
