A Garden In October

Of all the monthly visits I planned to make to the University Botanic Garden in Cambridge it was the Autumn season that I most eagerly anticipated. It's true that most of the flowers are past their best, but that's more than made up for by the glory of the trees. Even if the golds, reds and browns haven't yet painted the woods and hedgerows of the countryside with their outrageous palette, you can always guarantee that the species selected in the garden will be riotously colourful. As always the American Sweetgum beside the lake was star of the show - you'll know when we get to it even if  I don't say another word.

Take care.

  6. Gorgeous photos, John!
Fortunately I can see the wonderful Botanic Garden through your lens since I missed it during my very brief trip to Cambridge.
I'm also sorry I missed your earlier comment. (Unfortunately Blogger doesn't notify me anymore for the new comments.)
Cambridge stole my heart... but I knew already beforehand that it would. :)

  10. Wow! The sweet gum tree is fabulous (that IS what it is, right?). Some of these photos look like Impressionist paintings.

I really like the old man in the tree.

  13. Fall is indeed wonderful with the glorious autumnal colours. It does, however, presage the harshness to come. We have dealt with it before, however, and hopefully will still be here to deal with it again. Great series of mages.

  19. Oh, Sweet Gums are probably my favorite tree...for color anyway. I like different trees for different reasons. LOL I sure enjoyed the photos here. I so love fall even though I always feel a bit sad along with it.
