Summer In The City

Temperatures soared to 32 C yesterday and, while that might only be considered "warm" in some parts of the world, around here it counts as "HOT". The citizens of Cambridge and visitors from elsewhere did their best to enjoy it.

Ice-cream sellers do a roaring trade

A band plays in Market Street

Tempting fruit on a market stall

Tourists enjoy the sights

or try their hand at punting

while those hiring out the boats try to keep cool

Cyclists try to make sense of the road markings and signs
(or not)

Floral displays attempt the not-difficult task
of tempting you into The Mitre pub

The living's not so easy
(waiting for small change)

But I can't resist going back to hear that band again

Take care.

  7. The heat yesterday afternoon was furnace like, made for a sweltering ride home. Today's prospects, a thunder drenching I suspect

  11. The band certainly look as though they were having fun as do the hirer's out of punts. I hope the poor dog had some water to drink - at least he and his master seem to have been sitting in the shade.

  12. Summer and lots of activities on the menu. Looks like you had a great stroll through town. Music always draws my ears to the scene and it looks like those musicians were having fun playing.

  13. That was a neat post. I had to look up what 32c was. Okay. I'd just start to be getting comfortable. Hope the guy gets enough change to get his boots resoled.

  14. Nice selection of pix from a summer day in Cambridge. Those punts remind me so much of the gondolas in Venice.

  15. Sure is hot at 32°C especially outside in the sun. We have a lovely 27°C in winter today. That's perfect.

  16. The band member does look as if he is having a great time. Perfect photos for such a sunny and hot day, except the poor man and dog on the street, hope they collected enough small change for a bottle of water to share:)

  17. You should feel what its like on the tube at the moment. Why can't they have air-conditioning like other countries!

  18. Wow ! That's pretty hot for the UK. I can well imagine that the Mitre and its kindred hostelries would be doing a roaring trade - as well as the ice-cream parlours. The roundabout with the painted arrows was amusing, but perhaps it serves to assist those from countries where one drives on the opposite side of the road? Once again, a lovely collection of images John - thank you for sharing and happy weekend.
